About EmpowerEd

Empower. Enrich. Educate.

Introduction

EmpowerEd is an edtech platform that aims to educate, enrich and empower educators. The platform considers teachers as knowledge holders and experts and supports sharing and development of contextualized professional practices for pedagogy, leadership and wellbeing. The platform is based on ideas of problem solving, action research, decentralized training, collaboration, professional learning communities and teacher autonomy.

Why EmpowerEd?

Access to quality education remains a wide scale issue across various contexts. A large part of national budgets is spent on teacher training and enrichment with mixed results. The current training programs are fundamentally based on external experts conducting one off teacher training, while the larger underlying systemic issues related to teacher disempowerment, demotivation, de-professionalization and lack of contextualization of the practices are overlooked. Additionally, the pandemic has disrupted existent forms of teacher support and training and simultaneously has posed new challenges for teachers.

Objectives

EmpowerEd takes a positive approach to empowering and training teachers. It aims to:

Program Timeline

  1. Phase 1 Planning (March 2020 to July 2020)

Developing, designing and planning a pilot intervention across multiple contexts.

  2. Phase 2 Pre-piloting (August 2020 to December 2020)

Piloting a social media based platform across multiple contexts, initially with a minimum of 50 teachers and later scaled to 500 teachers, in each context.

  3. Phase 3 scaling up (June 2021 to May 2024)

We hope to scale the platform to reach 1,00,000 teachers in each context.
  4. Phase 4 handing over (June 2024 onwards)

We hope to hand over local platforms to local governments leading to sustainable change.
