The Model City Council is a pioneering initiative designed to empower youth to address pressing issues of sustainable development within their cities. At the heart of the MCC is a vision to instill in young people a strong sense of social responsibility, empathy, commitment to social justice – shaping them as leaders and changemakers of tomorrow.
Inspired by Gandhi’s call to “be the change you wish to see in the world,” the MCC embraces an inside-out approach to transformation. It begins by empowering selected students within schools to lead by example, sparking change within themselves and their surroundings. As these young ambassadors grow in confidence and action, the ripple of change spreads – first to their peers, then to teachers and the broader school community, and finally radiates outwards to neighborhoods, and the wider city. MCC strives to nurture these rays of change, lighting up the path toward collective action and community transformation.
Initially, a few students are selected to take on the role of campus ambassadors and participate in a two-day MCC or MCCx event (when any institution apart from TIDE Foundation organizes an MCC, the event is called an MCCx).
Through critical dialogue, collaboration, and action, these ambassadors co-develop micro social action initiatives to be implemented within their schools and communities.
